About The Author

Jane Coutts is the author of the novel, The Books and the Sea. She was born in Lincolnshire, and originally studied languages, but later completed a postgraduate thesis on rural community development. She lived for nearly 20 years on a remote Scottish island working in education, community development and heritage-related fields. She married an islander, has two sons and currently teaches and translates. Her passions are follies and things of beauty but little practical use, 18th century Gothic literature, the antiquities of Italy, Spain and Portugal and jasmine tea.
